Following 'Buried Hearts,' 'The Haunted Palace' (written by Yoon Soo-jung, directed by Yoon Sung-sik) is a fantasy romantic comedy drama. It tells the story of Yeori, a shaman who rejects her fate, and Kang Cheol, an ancient serpent spirit trapped in the body of Yeori's first love, Yoon Gap. Together, they face off against a vengeful spirit haunting the royal family, leading to a tangled mess of bodies and souls. Director Yoon Sung-sik, known for 'Mr. Queen,' 'You Are the Best!,' 'Bridal Mask,' and 'Dae Jo-yeong,' teams up with writer Yoon Soo-jung, who penned 'The King's Face' and 'Cheer Up!' The fresh casting of Yook Sung-jae (as Yoon Gap/Kang Cheol), Kim Ji-yeon (as Yeori), and Kim Ji-hoon (as Lee Jung) promises an exciting synergy.
Yook Sung-jae takes on the role of Yoon Gap, a royal librarian possessed by the mischievous serpent spirit Kang Cheol, who is also Yeori's first love. Kim Ji-yeon plays Yeori, the only granddaughter of a famous shaman, who possesses extraordinary spiritual abilities but chooses to live as an artisan specializing in eyeglasses, rejecting her shamanic destiny. Their on-screen chemistry as a couple of the same age in their first romantic comedy together is highly anticipated.
On the 26th, 'The Haunted Palace' released a main poster featuring Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon, reminiscent of characters from an ancient folktale.
In the center of the poster, styled like a traditional painting, Kim Ji-yeon captivates with her transformation into a 'pure white shaman,' exuding a mystical and clear aura with unwavering charisma. In contrast, Yook Sung-jae, as the 'mischievous serpent spirit,' stands behind her with a strong presence. His close proximity to Kim Ji-yeon suggests both a spirit possessing the shaman and a protective bodyguard, sparking curiosity.
The playful tension between the two characters adds a humorous touch. Kim Ji-yeon, ignoring her first love's body now possessed by her arch-nemesis, exudes a cold demeanor, while Yook Sung-jae, with his charming appearance, gazes at her with a mix of arrogance and mischief, showcasing the aura of a mischievous spirit. This raises questions about how they ended up in such a complicated fate. The intriguing atmosphere, subtle romance, and comedic tension in the chaotic romance between 'serpent spirit' Yook Sung-jae and 'shaman' Kim Ji-yeon heighten anticipation for the premiere of 'The Haunted Palace.'
SBS, known for its drama productions, will exclusively present this fantasy historical romantic comedy, 'The Haunted Palace,' on April 18th, Friday at 9:50 PM.
