Director Lee Il-hyung garnered acclaim for his unique character ensembles and genre-driven storytelling in 'A Violent Prosecutor,' which attracted 9.7 million viewers with its entertaining buddy play between a prosecutor and a con artist, and 'Remember,' a tale of a 60-year-long journey of revenge.
His first series, 'Karma,' is a crime thriller that weaves the stories of six individuals entangled in inescapable bad connections.
Director Lee Il-hyung stated, "For a series, it's crucial to keep viewers wanting to watch the next episode," emphasizing the importance of maintaining audience engagement. He focused on how to sustain the tension from one episode to the next, promising that 'Karma' will captivate global audiences with its cliffhangers and unexpected twists.
Describing the series, Director Lee Il-hyung said, "It's a thriller where six characters, each driven by their own desires, find themselves unintentionally linked by bad connections, leading to mysterious situations." This introduction raises expectations for the intricate human psychology and suspenseful narrative that will unfold among the characters trapped in a web of malevolent ties.
Director Lee Il-hyung further explained, "I decided to focus more on character and situational direction in this thriller. Following how the characters' dark desires intertwine into bad connections will make the viewing experience much more engaging." His intent to create a tightly woven narrative in 'Karma' piques curiosity.
He also highlighted, "The most important aspect was ensuring that viewers couldn't easily predict the next scene or situation. I am confident that this will be the greatest strength of 'Karma.'" This emphasis on unpredictability elevates anticipation for the series' rich storytelling.
'Karman' is set to premiere on Netflix on April 4th.
