As the members of the group NewJeans announce their plans to debut as NJZ, a court decision that will determine the direction of their activities is expected soon.
According to insiders, the court is set to deliver its ruling this week on ADOR's injunction request to prohibit the members from engaging in activities. The key issue is whether ADOR fulfilled its essential obligations under the exclusive contract with the members.
The court concluded the hearing process for the injunction on the 14th. Prior to this, it was reported that the NewJeans fanbase submitted a petition to the court supporting the group's independent activities as NJZ rather than under ADOR. Additionally, the members filed for a trademark using NJZ on the 6th of last month, which is currently under review.
On the other hand, ADOR has countered claims of discriminatory treatment compared to other groups within the label, stating that the alleged 21 billion won investment and full support for NewJeans is merely a one-sided claim. They emphasize that NewJeans should return to ADOR, honor their contract, and continue their remaining activities.
As the court's decision looms, NewJeans members have announced plans to debut with a new song on the Hong Kong stage on the 23rd.
If the court rules in favor of the members, NewJeans will effectively re-debut as NJZ. Conversely, if ADOR prevails, it will become practically challenging for NewJeans members to pursue independent activities, and they may face significant contractual penalties if they proceed regardless.
