Singer Wheesung passed away on March 10, prompting expressions of sorrow from the medical community.
Earlier on the 10th, Wheesung was reportedly found unresponsive at his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, after his mother visited following a call from his manager, who was unable to reach him by phone. Emergency services were called, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service, which is scheduled to take place on the morning of the 12th. While no signs of foul play were found, a syringe was discovered near Wheesung, leading investigators to look into the exact cause of death.
Following the passing of Wheesung, Dr. Nah Jong-ho, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Yale University, who gained attention for his appearance on tvN's television show "You Quiz on the Block," shared a tribute to Wheesung on his Facebook, mourning the loss of another young life.
Dr. Nah Jong-ho noted that while the exact cause of death has not been confirmed, he recalled that Wheesung had struggled with depression and sleep disorders during his life, and had relied on sleep medications.
He expressed his deep sadness, stating, "As someone who focuses on the issue of drug overdoses, this hits particularly hard for me. I have been advocating for increased funding for addiction rehabilitation facilities for years. I even spoke to the head of the Food and Drug Administration about it. But nothing has changed, so what will it take for us to see progress?"
