On the afternoon of the 21st, at the production presentation for the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Buried Hearts' (written by Lee Myung-hee, directed by Jin Chang-kyu) held at the SBS building in Mokdong, Seoul, Park Hyung-sik stated, "I have shown a positive and bright image through romantic comedies, but this time, the opportunity to portray a character I have never shown before played a significant role in my decision to take on this project."
'Buried Hearts' follows Seo Dong-joo (played by Park Hyung-sik), who hacks into a political slush fund worth 2 trillion won, risking everything to fight against the absolute evil that killed him and to bring down that world. Park Hyung-sik takes on the lead role of Seo Dong-joo, who faces off against Heo Jun-ho (playing Yeom Jang-seon), who embodies the 'absolute evil'. Expectations are high for Park Hyung-sik as he breaks away from his previous delicate and kind image to transform into a masculine and ambitious character.
Director Jin Chang-kyu explained his decision to cast Park Hyung-sik, who is far from the 'ambitious man' image, in the role of Seo Dong-joo, saying, "I have been keeping an eye on him since his singing career over ten years ago, and I appreciated his transformation during his acting debut in SBS's 'High Society'. When I read the script for 'Treasure Island', Park Hyung-sik immediately came to mind." He added, "I heard that he wanted to take on a more masculine character, so I thought it would be a good opportunity for him to showcase that through this project."
Park Hyung-sik expressed, "Seo Dong-joo is very ambitious and greedy. While I have played roles that are filled with a sense of justice and warmth, this time, I will show a more human side, displaying a desire to achieve both dreams and love, as well as being a rational friend. Viewers will be able to see a side of me they haven't seen before."
He also mentioned, "It was physically challenging, but our drama involves intense emotional and psychological battles between the characters. While filming, I often thought, 'Wow, I am really processing all these emotions.' It was quite a demanding experience." He added, "Thanks to the support from my seniors and the director, I was able to get through it," and emphasized that viewers will witness Seo Dong-joo's struggles both physically and mentally.
'Buried Hearts', featuring Park Hyung-sik, Heo Jun-ho, Lee Hae-young, Hong Hwa-yeon, Woo Hyun, and Kim Jung-ran, will premiere tonight at 10 PM, following 'My Perfect Secretary'. It will air every Friday at 10 PM and Saturday at 9:50 PM thereafter.
