[SBS Star] GOT7 Expresses Their Gratitude to JYP Ent. for Allowing Them to Keep Their Group Name

K-pop boy group GOT7 expressed their gratitude to their former agency, JYP Entertainment.

On January 20, the 1theK Originals YouTube channel uploaded a video featuring GOT7.

In the video, the members took some time to read and react to online "facts" about themselves.

When the topic of their former agency, JYP Entertainment, came up, the members remarked, "JYP Entertainment is where we got our start, so we feel a strong connection to them. We're grateful they brought us together."

The writing online mentioned that in May 2022, the members acquired the trademark rights for GOT7, including for unit activities, from JYP Entertainment. 

The group's leader JAY B personally reached out to each member, collected the necessary documents and seals, and managed the process of getting all the required signatures to complete the trademark transfer.

Regarding this, JAY B shared, "To be honest, if they didn't want to transfer the rights, they could have made things very difficult by asking for an exorbitant amount or something similar. But instead, they offered the rights to us at their original value. I was truly grateful for their support. Not all agencies would do that," and the other members nodded in agreement. 
 
In January 2021, GOT7 parted ways with JYP Entertainment, with each member signing with a different agency.

Some time later, BAMBAM explained to fans how GOT7 managed to keep their group name despite leaving JYP Entertainment.

"We bought the rights to the name. In other words, we acquired the patent, which is why we can still use the name GOT7 even though none of us are with JYP Entertainment anymore," he said. 

BAMBAM then expressed gratitude toward JYP Entertainment for their cooperation, noting that not all agencies are as accommodating. 

"Some agencies are just awful. Even if they keep the group's name, they often don't use it but still refuse to hand it over just because you didn't renew your contract. I really don't understand that mentality."

He went on to praise JYP Entertainment, saying, "I have to admit, JYP Entertainment is a fantastic company. I love J.Y. Park (the head of JYP Entertainment). I joke about him sometimes, but he's an amazing person."
