On October 12, Seoul Northern District Court ruled ordered Koo Ha Ra's ex-boyfriend, Choi, to pay a total of 78 million won (approximately 55,000 dollars) to the late singer's family.
Prosecutors indicted Choi for threatening to spread private videos of Koo Ha Ra to the public, threatening Koo's former agency representatives, damaging Koo's property, and also for illegal filming, for which he was later found not guilty.
The court ruled that Choi's such actions caused a significant amount of psychological pain to Koo Ha Ra, leading her to take her own life.
The court also ruled that Choi was aware of the fact that Koo Ha Ra was going to take her own life, but continued with his actions of threatening her.
Roh Jong-eon, the legal representative of Koo Ha Ra's bereaved family, shared, "The highest level of restitution was ruled, based on the amount of mental damage recognized by the court. In the long run, we hope that the court will increase the degree of restitution in similar situation in the future."
