On October 11, news outlet TV Daily reported that Lee Jung Jae's pay per episode of the next season of Netflix's mega-hit series 'Squid Game' is six figures.
The news outlet stated that Lee Jung Jae would be paid one billion won (approximately 697,000 dollars) per episode of 'Squid Game Season 2'.
If nine episodes of 'Squid Game Season 2' are produced like 'Squid Game', he would be taking home in total of nine billion won (approximately 6.3 million dollars).
Since director Hwang Dong-hyuk is writing and directing the upcoming series as well, he was compensated with a good amount of incentives for his work.
Usually, the cost of production includes the pay of the cast, which means the cost purely for series' production gets lower as the cast's pay gets higher.
But after a discussion between Netflix, production company Siren Pictures and the cast, they were able to make sure that 100 billion won (approximately 69 million won) was used for production itself.
Once the promotion for 'Squid Game Season 2' begins, it is assumed that over 100 billion won will be used for production without the cast's pay.
Regarding this report, however, Siren Pictures responded, "We haven't even discussed the matter yet. Nothing has been finalized. 'Squid Game 2' script is still being worked on."
It is about 456 cash-strapped people competing in children's games to win a ton of cash after being invited to the competition by some strangers.
