[SBS Star] KPOP STAR Winner Katie Kim Recently Left YG Ent.: YG Explains Why
Yang Hyun Suk, the head of YG Entertainment gave a detailed explanation about a well-known trainee Katie Kim's departure from the agency.

On May 25, Yang Hyun Suk released an official statement regarding the recent departure of Katie Kim―the winner of 2014's popular talent show 'KPOP STAR Season 4', from YG Entertainment.

Previously on May 24, it was reported that Katie Kim left YG Entertainment after joining the agency back in 2015.

Fans were furious when they first hear the news, as they felt like YG Entertainment had neglected the talented singer for three years who joined the agency in hopes of starting her music career soon.

In regard to this issue, Yang Hyun Suk stated, "After Katie Kim joined YG Entertainment, we learned that the style of music she wanted to pursue was more towards the kind of music produced in the States. She seemed more accustomed to American culture than Korean one, as she immigrated to New Jersey when she was 10 years old."

Yang Hyun Suk added, "Over the past several years, Katie Kim worked with producers in the States and finished recording some tracks as well. We also completed filming her debut music videos."

He continued, "Katie Kim's debut album was prepared at YG Entertainment, but she will be debuting under a different agency. It is because the main staff in charge of her debut left YG Entertainment to establish his/her own agency in the beginning of the year."

Lastly, he said, "Due to this, the time of Katie Kim's debut became unclear. After a discussion, she ultimately decided to move to the agency that the member of staff established. YG Entertainment will be distributing Katie Kim's music and keep supporting her."

As the winner of 'KPOP STAR Season 4', Katie Kim had the opportunity to choose between YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and Antenna Music for her debut.

Katie Kim chose YG Entertainment, but her debut had not been made since 2015.
