지난해 말 국내외에서 생활하고 있는 외국인들로부터 놀라운 이메일을 받았습니다. 제가 쓰고 있는 칼럼을 레터링을 통해 재미있게 읽고 있다는 내용이었습니다. 가능하면 영문 칼럼도 써 달라는 내용이었습니다. 따라서 올해부터는 한 달에 한 번씩 칼럼을 영문으로 작성하기로 했습니다.

Samsung’s new phones caught a new spot light. Samsung introduces two or three new cell phones every three months or so.But this was something new. What caught my attention was its functions. Two phones are “Google phone” and “Yahoo phone”.

 
After seeing the names of the phone, it is not difficult to guess the functions. New function is connecting the porta web sitel by pressing just one button. You might think, it is nothing new, but trust me, it is some thing new. Till now most of cell phones had one or more function keys for wireless internet. But you needed perseverance. In another words, there are so many steps to get to wanted web site. This cell phone is different. Just a touch of a button, you will find yourself either in Google or Yahoo. With easy access, you can get more information such as satellite pictures, maps, and G-mail. Of course same goes to Yahoo phone; direct access to Yahoo mail, Yahoo messenger and many other things.

This is only a beginning. With the year 2007 started, Samsung, LG, Pantech have introduced new phones consecutively. LG recently open a few new ones to the public. One of them is LG-sv190. It caught my attention with bright white coating. This is the first LG cell phone with satellite media broadcasting function this year. What is most unique about this model is its navigation function. Many cell phones have navigation function, SK’s nate drive, but most of them need separate apparatus. But this model operates navigation on its own. It means, it can be used not only in cars, but also while walking. Convenient, Huh?!
Comparatively small sized company, Pantech has unveiled new Sky models in 2007. One of the is IM-S150. 

This model emphasizes the simplicity and softness. With ultra light design, it won . Other than design, it has 1GB memory which can hold up to 250 MP3 songs.  Good enough to take place of MP3 player. These new functions sure catch your eyes, right?

If you look at these models, it is not difficult to realize the changes in design. Most of the models tend to be slimmer with multi functions. This tendency became vivid, as the year 2007 started. Many people say the functions of cell phone have reached limit. In 2007, most of companies will compete in the field of design. In another word, design will decide the top seller and worst seller. Of course this will make the manufacturers to invest more on design, not on the function like in the past.

2007 will be the year of HSDPA. Nobody disagree with this. HSDPA usage will expend, Foreign manufacturers are more likely to be interested in domestic market. It is most certain that the competition in the mobile phone market will be more intense than ever before.
