The county-run Ulju Hospital, a campaign pledge made by Ulju County Governor Lee Soon-geol four years ago, is set to open next month. This marks the realization of the county's commitment to eliminating medical blind spots, and the hospital is now focusing its efforts on achieving early stabilization.

UBC reporter Yoon Joo-woong has the report.

This is the county-run Ulju Hospital, which was established after Ulju County purchased and renovated the former Onyang Boram Hospital.

Although it will begin with 55 beds, the building was expanded in scale from the start to allow for an increase to 100 beds.

The facility is equipped with an emergency room, operating rooms, a health checkup center, and a physical therapy department. It also features an artificial kidney center with 15 beds to assist dialysis patients.

A total of 148 medical staff will provide care across eight departments, including emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, and orthopedics.

[Lee Soon-geol/Ulju County Governor: It will play a pivotal role in resolving regional medical gaps by significantly improving residents' access to healthcare. We are making every effort to ensure it becomes a reliable public medical institution that takes responsibility for the health of our county residents.]

The On-General Hospital Group from Busan, which will operate the Ulju County Hospital under contract until 2030, is preparing for a successful launch of the public hospital.

As the annual operating deficit, estimated at 3 to 4 billion won, will be covered by Ulju County, the hospital has introduced plans for early stabilization.

[Jeong Jong-hoon/Director of Ulju Hospital: Since this is a regional hospital that can generate revenue, we are doing our utmost to save taxpayer money by maximizing income and minimizing expenses wherever possible.]

Aiming to become a new model of public healthcare that supports residents from birth to old age, the Ulju County Hospital is currently finalizing preparations, including equipment setup, and is scheduled to open next month.
