A man in his 50s indicted for brandishing a weapon and injuring his ex-wife's lover has been sentenced to prison in the first trial.
The 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court sentenced the defendant, surnamed Ji, to three years in prison today (October 16) on charges including special injury and violation of the Stalking Punishment Act.
The court also ordered him to complete a 40-hour stalking treatment program.
The court stated, "The defendant repeatedly attacked the victim's body with the intent to render him virtually impotent."
It further pointed out, "Although he was told by the victim (his ex-wife) not to contact her or come around, he committed the crime while loitering in the surrounding area."
"The physical and psychological suffering of the victim is believed to have been considerable, and given the malicious nature of the crime, punishment corresponding to it must be imposed," it explained.
Ji is accused of stabbing his ex-wife's lover multiple times with a weapon at a park in Yeongdeungpo-gu on May 19.
Investigations revealed that Ji committed the crime in a fit of anger after seeing his ex-wife together with the man.
At the time, the victim was stabbed in areas including his genitals, chest, abdomen, and thighs, but he was reportedly in a stable condition with no threat to his life.
