Military Exemption Followed by Apartments... Controversy Surrounds Special Housing Supply for Medalists

Here is the next news.

There is a special housing supply system for medalists.

Public controversy, including discussions over military service benefits sparked by remarks from some athletes who won gold medals at the recent Asian Games, continues to spread nationwide.

Amidst this, attention is also drawing to the special housing supply benefits provided to athletes who win prizes in international competitions.

According to the current Rules on Housing Supply, elite athletes who place third or higher in events such as the Olympics or World Championships can be included as eligible recipients for special supplies of national housing.

Once selected as an eligible recipient, they can receive a special supply of national housing or private housing with a dedicated area of 85 square meters or less, based on one housing unit per household, according to the priority set by the relevant authorities.

However, they must have no prior history of receiving a special housing supply.

They also need to meet requirements such as the period of being a homeless household.

This special supply system is known to have been introduced ahead of the 1988 Seoul Olympics to boost the morale of athletes.

With popular complexes offering pre-sale prices lower than market value allowing for considerable market gains, debates continue online regarding the appropriateness and fairness of these benefits.
