The Financial Services Commission will convene an emergency meeting this afternoon at the Government Complex Seoul, summoning the heads of all financial sector associations and the chief executive officers of financial companies that have suffered hacking damages.

The so-called financial "twin pillars," including Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eok-won and Financial Supervisory Service Governor Lee Chan-jin, are scheduled to attend to inspect the current status of the hacking incidents and discuss response measures.

Although the authorities initially planned to receive the results of self-inspections by financial companies on October 7, considering the holiday period lasting through tomorrow, they moved up the schedule as damages expanded beyond banks to secondary financial sectors such as savings banks and capital companies.

Circumstances suggest that AI-based tools were utilized in some of the attack processes. Because it has not yet been confirmed whether the attacks were carried out by the same hacker or group, they are also expected to share comparative analyses of the hacking attack techniques used against each financial company.

In addition, they plan to check whether similar attack traces have been discovered at other financial companies by cross-referencing attacker IP addresses and access logs shared through the Financial Security Institute and other organizations.

Recently in the financial sector, following the banking sector including Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, Hana Bank, and Busan Bank, personal information infringement incidents have also occurred at Yegaram Savings Bank and Hyundai Capital.

The scale of personal information leaks confirmed so far exceeds 60,000 people.

Financial authorities are not ruling out the possibility that additional hacking attacks and information leak damages may be identified in other sectors beyond the security incidents reported so far.
