Administrative authorities have taken action following a mass die-off of fish in an Incheon waterway.

According to Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, complaints were filed regarding a mass die-off of fish along the Seobuganseon Waterway in Samsan-dong, Bupyeong-gu, on the 18th and at 3:05 p.m. yesterday (August 19).

The district confirmed that dozens of fish, including crucian carp and common carp, died along a 100 to 200-meter stretch of the waterway, and called in a cleanup contractor to handle the site.

The district estimated that the fish died due to a lack of dissolved oxygen in the water caused by floating debris flowing into the waterway from recent rainfall.

The dissolved oxygen (DO) level in the stream measured at the site the previous day was only 1.1 ppm, which is lower than the minimum level of 5 ppm required for fish to survive.

An official from Bupyeong-gu said, "We plan to notify the Korea Rural Community Corporation, which is responsible for managing the Seobuganseon Waterway, of the incident."
