Central Regions to Feel Below-Freezing Windchills Tomorrow; Bundle Up for Early Winter Cold

Tomorrow (Nov. 6), the weather will abruptly shift toward early winter.

Above all, strong chilly winds will blow, so you will need to bundle up warmly.

First, looking at the satellite imagery, the rain clouds that brought precipitation this morning have moved out to the East Sea (Donghae), while another trough passing through the north overnight will bring another round of light rain to the central regions.

Behind that trough, a high-pressure system with cold properties from the north will expand tomorrow.

Due to the strong pressure gradient between the high and low-pressure systems, cold northwesterly winds will blow across South Korea throughout the day tomorrow.

Particularly centered around the capital area, morning temperatures in Seoul will drop to 3°C, with windchills expected to fall below freezing.

To see why the weather is suddenly turning cold like winter, let us widen our view and examine the upper-level weather map across the Northern Hemisphere around our country.

As you can see, our country is located toward the bottom, while cold air of around minus 30°C, shown in white, is settled to the north.

As a trough holding this cold air brushes past the northern part of the country, unseasonably early winter cold will persist until the weekend.

Tomorrow's morning lows will drop to 3°C in Seoul and 4°C in Chungju, while daytime highs will stall at 9°C in Seoul, keeping it cold all day.

The unseasonably cold weather is expected to peak on Saturday morning.

On Sunday, rain will fall mainly in the central regions, and some areas in Gangwon-do may see snow.
