Police to Seek Arrest Warrant for Woman Who Threatened Ex-Partner with Self-Immolation

A woman in her 20s has been arrested in the act after going to her ex-partner's home and threatening to set herself on fire.

The Seoul Guro Police Station announced that it arrested a woman in her 20s, identified as A, at around 7:20 p.m. yesterday (October 29) in Guro-gu, Seoul, on charges of pouring an inflammable substance on her body and making threats at the home of her ex-boyfriend, also in her 20s.

According to reports, A had been sending social media messages to the man's acquaintances starting on October 26 while the man was away on a trip to Japan, and upon learning of this, the man reported A to the police.

Amid these events, the police received an additional report regarding stalking the day before yesterday and issued emergency measures against A, including a restraining order. Concluding that A violated this order yesterday, a day later, the police promptly apprehended her.

Reports indicate that multiple reports regarding dating violence and stalking between the two individuals have been filed previously.

The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant today (October 30), slapping A with charges including violation of the Stalking Punishment Act, special intimidation, trespassing, and preparation for arson of an inhabited building.

Previously, the police reportedly applied for provisional measures against A, such as attaching a location-tracking electronic device and holding her in a detention center, but the requests were dismissed.

No injuries have been reported so far, but the police decided to seek an arrest warrant first, considering the possibility that the situation could have led to greater harm.
