A man in his 50s who stood trial on charges of wielding a weapon and injuring his ex-wife's romantic partner has been sentenced to prison in the first trial.

The 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court sentenced the defendant, surnamed Ji, to three years in prison on charges including special injury and violation of the Stalking Punishment Act on October 16.

The court also ordered him to complete a 40-hour stalking treatment program.

The court stated, "The defendant repeatedly attacked the victim's body with the intent to render him effectively impotent."

It pointed out, "Although he was told not to contact or approach the victim (his ex-wife), he committed the crime while loitering around the area."

The court explained, "The physical and psychological suffering experienced by the victim is likely to have been substantial, and the nature of the crime is severe, requiring punishment commensurate with it."

Ji is accused of repeatedly stabbing and injuring his ex-wife's lover with a weapon at a park in Yeongdeungpo-gu on May 19.

Investigations showed that Ji committed the crime out of anger after seeing his ex-wife together with the man.

At the time, the victim was stabbed in areas including his genitals, chest, abdomen, and thighs, but was reported to be in a condition where his life was not in danger.
