Man in 50s Arrested for Murder of Couple in Naju... Electric Bicycle Found, What Was the Motive?

A man in his 50s has been arrested by police on charges of breaking into a rural home in Naju, South Jeolla Province, and murdering a couple in their 60s.

The couple was found with their feet bound in separate rooms, and police investigations showed the suspect fled the scene in the victims' truck after the crime.

The Naju Police Station announced today (October 7) that they have urgently arrested and are questioning a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, in Muan County, South Jeolla Province, on charges of murdering the couple in their 60s.

The incident came to light at around 7:50 p.m. yesterday.

The 60-year-old husband, surnamed Jang, and his wife were found dead inside a house in Wanggok-myeon, Naju, South Jeolla Province.

According to the police's initial forensic examination, husband Jang is presumed to have died from stab wounds, while his wife is believed to have died of asphyxiation caused by airway obstruction.

Both victims had their feet bound with ropes and clothing in separate rooms.

Police believe that Mr. A broke into Jang's home late at night on October 5 and murdered the couple.

After analyzing nearby CCTV footage and other evidence, police identified footage of Mr. A approaching Jang's house wearing a hat and a mask while riding an electric bicycle.

Investigations revealed that Mr. A fled the scene by stealing a 1-ton truck belonging to Jang after committing the crime.

The truck was discovered near Juksanbo, about 1.3 kilometers away in a straight line from the house.

Police also found an electric bicycle, presumed to have been discarded by Mr. A, at a location about 500 meters away from the truck.

Tracking Mr. A based on CCTV footage and other evidence, police urgently arrested him today in Muan County.

Village residents stated that the deceased couple had farmed for a long time and lived without any significant conflicts with their neighbors.

Police are currently questioning Mr. A to determine the exact circumstances of the crime, including the whereabouts of the weapon used and the motive behind the murder of the couple.
