A Chinese man in his 30s, surnamed Jeong, has been arrested on charges of murdering a female Chinese international student in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province.

The Daegu District Court issued an arrest warrant for Jeong during a pre-trial detention hearing held today (the 27th), citing a risk of flight.

Jeong is accused of murdering the 25-year-old Chinese student at a studio apartment in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, on the 20th.

CCTV footage captured Jeong leaving the apartment dressed in women's clothing after killing the victim.

Circumstances also emerged showing that immediately after the crime, Jeong headed toward Dongdaegu Station wearing a women's dress and a pulled-down hat, before changing into men's clothing in a station restroom in an apparent attempt to throw off the investigation.

Police initially questioned Jeong as a witness since he was the one who filed the missing person report. Becoming suspicious of his statements, police pressed further and reportedly secured a confession from Jeong that he strangled the woman to death.

Investigations revealed that Jeong was a part-time lecturer at the graduate school where the victim took classes.

In addition to murder, police applied charges of obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means against Jeong for hindering the investigation with a false missing person report.

Police are currently conducting search operations based on Jeong's statement that he mutilated parts of the victim's body and abandoned them in multiple locations, including Daegu and Gyeonggi Province.

Considering the brutality of the crime, police are reviewing whether to deploy a criminal profiler to conduct a psychopathic evaluation on Jeong and whether to disclose his identity.
