A group of individuals who impersonated police investigators to break into an officetel in Daejeon, where they brutally assaulted an online gambling site operator and robbed him of valuables before fleeing, has been rounded up and arrested en masse.

The Daejeon Seobu Police Station announced today (the 21st) that it has forwarded six suspects, including A (in their 30s), to the prosecution under detention on charges of robbery and injury.

Suspect A and the others are accused of breaking into an officetel in Mannyeon-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, at around 2:00 AM on July 10, assaulting B (in their 20s), an operator of an online gambling site, and fleeing with 32.3 million won in total valuables, including 31 million won in cash and two computer main units worth 1.3 million won.

The suspects, all in their 20s and 30s, planned the crime after obtaining intelligence that there was a business in Daejeon where funds accumulated around A.

They impersonated police investigators to enter the officetel office, assaulted B, intimidated two other employees by making them face the wall, and stole the valuables before fleeing.

During this process, wearing retractable batons and brass knuckles, they indiscriminately beat B, inflicting injuries that required five weeks of medical treatment, including an orbital fracture.

They tracked the victims to identify the office unit; one kept watch inside a car while five others took the elevator up to carry out the crime.

Initiating an investigation, the police tracked their movements and apprehended four suspects. The remaining two were arrested sequentially in Daejeon and Okcheon, North Chungcheong Province, after a two-week manhunt and placed under detention.

Investigations revealed that A conspired with local senior and junior acquaintances after experiencing financial hardship caused by the closure of a business A previously ran due to police crackdowns.

The police seized the crime tools and 20.1 million won of the stolen cash from the suspects.

Concluding that A and the others pre-planned the crime to steal incoming funds from the business, the police transferred all of them to the prosecution in custody.
