As skepticism grew over the sustainability of artificial intelligence infrastructure investments, Asian semiconductor-related stocks, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, faced a widespread sell-off on July 28.

The decline was particularly steep in Japan.

At 2:20 p.m. today, Japan's Nikkei 225 index plummeted by more than 4%, falling below the 62,000 mark for the first time since late May, while the TOPIX index also dropped by about 3%.

Nand flash memory manufacturer Kioxia plunged 18.3% to 44,550 yen, reducing its market capitalization to 24.41 trillion yen (approximately 219 trillion won).

Semiconductor equipment stocks also shared the downward trend, including Tokyo Electron (-11.2%), Renesas (-10.6%), Lasertec (-14.4%), and Advantest (-10.4%).

Taiwan's Taiex index slumped by over 4% during trading, dropping to the 41,600 range.

TSMC, which accounts for more than 40% of Taiwan's stock market capitalization, also expanded its losses, trading 2.8% lower at 2,285 New Taiwan dollars.

Consequently, its market capitalization shrank to 59.3 trillion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 2,672 trillion won).

Taiwanese semiconductor design firm MediaTek was also trading down by 9.9%.
