The Blue House announced that a public debate on real estate policy, presided over by President Lee Jae-myung, will be held on July 23.
The debate, which will be attended by members of the general public, experts, and government officials, is expected to cover all aspects of real estate policy, including supply, finance, and taxation.
Ahead of the major debate on July 23, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Financial Services Commission, and the Ministry of Finance and Economy will each hold public forums from July 14 to 16 to gather opinions from experts and the public on the topics of supply, finance, and taxation, respectively.
Kim Yong-beom, Chief of Staff for Policy at the Blue House, said, "There is growing concern among the public regarding the recent real estate market," adding, "The government is taking the market situation very seriously and is reviewing policies with the top priority of ensuring housing stability for the people."
He continued, "We plan to discuss the various opinions that have been presented so far and seek policy directions," and added, "We will also listen broadly to the opinions of citizens who cannot attend the debate through online channels."
In particular, Kim stated, "We are reviewing reasonable improvement plans for the overall tax system, including property and transaction taxes, based on research projects and international cases."
He also explained that there is sufficient time to reflect the opinions gathered at the July 23 debate, noting, "The government's tax reform plan must be announced by early August at the latest."
