The Korea Swimming Federation and Gumi City, North Gyeongsang Province, have joined forces to host international and national-level swimming competitions.
The Korea Swimming Federation announced today (July 8) that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Gumi City at the mayor's office.
The signing ceremony, held this morning, was attended by Korea Swimming Federation President Chung Chang-hoon, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho, Gumi City Sports Council President Yoon Sang-hoon, and Gumi City Swimming Federation President Kim Jeong-chan.
The Korea Swimming Federation and Gumi City have agreed to establish a practical cooperative system to attract various international and national swimming events by utilizing the official-standard swimming pool within the Sandong National Sports Center, which is scheduled for completion in June 2031.
The Sandong National Sports Center, located in Sindang-ri, Sandong-eup, Gumi, is a building with three floors above ground and one underground, and it is planned to be operated by dividing it into a multi-purpose gymnasium and a youth culture center.
In particular, once the official-standard swimming pool featuring 10 lanes in a 50-meter long course is completed in the first half of 2031, it is expected that the city will be able to host international swimming competitions, leveraging its geographical advantage of being located about 40 minutes by car from Daegu International Airport.
