U.S. Central Command officially announced the resumption of airstrikes against Iran via social media.
Following an incident on July 6 where three oil tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Central Command stated that it has initiated a series of powerful strikes against Iran to ensure they pay a heavy price for targeting merchant ships carrying innocent civilians.
The command specifically emphasized that Iran's actions were unjustified and a clear violation of the cease-fire agreement.
The United States has also resumed economic sanctions against Iran.
Reuters reported, citing an official, that the U.S. administration is revoking the general license that had authorized the sale of Iranian crude oil.
This comes just 15 days after the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a 60-day temporary license on June 22 allowing the sale of Iranian crude oil.
U.S. President Donald Trump, who arrived in Türkiye to attend the NATO summit, did not hide his frustration, expressing disappointment with Europe.
[Trump/U.S. President: I am very disappointed with NATO. To be honest, if it hadn't been held in Türkiye, I might not have attended.]
He repeatedly criticized European nations for failing to assist the U.S. in the war with Iran, despite the U.S. having contributed to NATO.
On the other hand, Türkiye declared that it would consider selling the U.S. F-35 advanced fighter jets, claiming it has provided more help to the U.S. than other allies, including its role in improving U.S.-Syria relations.
President Trump, however, left room for speculation regarding the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Europe, saying he would wait and see.
