The U.S. Congress has summoned Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to directly explain his relationship with a woman suspected of being a Chinese spy.
According to Axios on the 5th (local time), Representative Brian Mast, Republican Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Representative John Moolenaar, Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, and Representative Rick Crawford, member of the Intelligence Committee, sent a letter to Jensen Huang that day, requesting his attendance at a joint, closed-door briefing by the three committees.
In the letter, they asked Huang to explain Nvidia's security systems designed to protect the company from foreign adversaries, as well as his interactions with Alice Huang.
They stated, "Recent reports raise serious national security concerns regarding the possibility of China accessing sensitive U.S. technologies and information," adding, "The issues of Chinese infiltration and access to advanced U.S. technology are core investigative matters for the three committees during this session."
They emphasized, "It is crucial for Congress to understand the extent to which U.S. national security has been exposed to risk."
This request indicates growing congressional pressure surrounding the investigation into the relationship between Jensen Huang and Alice Huang, who is suspected of Chinese espionage.
Alice Huang is a senior executive at Megaspeed, a Singapore-headquartered data center company.
She was photographed drinking alongside Jensen Huang and other artificial intelligence (AI) company executives at a bar in Taiwan in June 2024, and was spotted with him again in May of last year.
Alice Huang herself reportedly flaunted her ties by posting photos with Jensen Huang on social media, which she allegedly used to raise investment funds.
Previously, The New York Times (NYT) reported that Alice Huang is suspected of maintaining a close relationship with Jensen Huang and leaking information to China.
The NYT also reported that President Donald Trump was briefed on the matter by intelligence agencies but took no action.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that authorities in at least three countries are concerned that Alice Huang may have leaked sensitive information regarding Nvidia chips to the Chinese government.
However, Nvidia has denied the allegations, stating that Jensen Huang's contact with Alice Huang was merely routine business interaction and that no national security-related information was leaked.
Nvidia has not released a statement regarding the House's summons.
The Chinese government previously dismissed allegations of Chinese espionage targeting Nvidia as "groundless speculation."
