North Korea's Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly held the 2nd Plenary Meeting of its 15th term at the assembly hall in Pyongyang yesterday (November 5) to deliberate on bills and carry out personnel changes for standing committee members, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The meeting was presided over by Kim Hyong-sik, vice chairman of the SPA Standing Committee, and attended by standing committee members, including Secretary-General Ko Kil-son.
The agenda included amendments and supplements to the Construction Law and the Precious Metals Management Law, as well as the recall (dismissal) of a vice chairman and a standing committee member of the Supreme People's Assembly.
The draft amendments and supplements, which had been reviewed by the SPA Legislation Committee, were adopted following reports, study, and deliberation at the plenary meeting.
In addition, the recall of the vice chairman and the standing committee member of the Supreme People's Assembly was approved.
KCNA did not specifically name the individuals who were recalled.
The Supreme People's Assembly is the highest organ of state power under the North Korean constitution, equivalent to South Korea's National Assembly.
It holds legislative power as well as the authority to organize executive and judiciary branches.
The position of Chairman of the SPA Standing Committee, regarded as the second-most powerful post in North Korea's state hierarchy, is currently (HYUNJAE) vacant.
