The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee hosted the 1st Olympic Movement Agenda Forum on October 28 at the SKY31 Convention in Lotte World Tower, Seoul.
This forum was organized to share key policies of the international sports community and explore future directions in connection with "Fit for the Future," the new future strategy of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Around 100 people attended the event, including Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo Seung-min, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Sports Cooperation Director Kang Dae-geum, and International Sports Strategy Foundation Chairperson Park Joo-hee.
The forum consisted of four sessions: realizing the Olympic movement and its values, the athlete-centered decision-making process, the restructuring of the Olympic program selection method, and changes in the Olympics for sustainability.
Professor Lee Jung-woo of the University of Edinburgh in the U.K. explained the autonomy and neutrality of the Olympics in the first session, while IOC Athletes' Commission member Kim Bui served as the moderator to discuss ways to expand athletes' rights and interests with participants including IOC Athletes' Commission member Won Yun-jong.
In the afternoon, Cedric Vanden Bogaerde, executive director of the International Academy of Sports Science and Technology (AISTS), lectured on the Olympic program selection method, and Kookmin University Professor Lee Won-jae lectured on Olympic sustainability.
President Yoo said, "It is time to understand the trends of the international sports community and contemplate together what they mean for our sports field."
Starting with this forum, the Sport & Olympic Committee plans to regularize events discussing major pending issues in the international sports community.
