North Korea fired about 10 short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.
The JCS stated, "Our military detected about 10 short-range ballistic missiles launched into the East Sea from the Wonsan area in North Korea at around 12:30 p.m. on October 29."
The JCS added, "While strengthening surveillance and vigilance in preparation for additional launches, South Korea, the United States, and Japan are maintaining a full readiness posture while closely sharing information regarding 'North Korean ballistic missiles.'"
This marks North Korea's first ballistic missile launch in 17 days.
Earlier, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea from the Pyongyang area on October 12.
Some of the missiles detected at the time flew more than 900 km, and North Korea later announced through state media that it had test-fired "tactical ballistic missiles."
North Korea's missile launch today took place amid heightened tensions along the inter-Korean border area, following moves such as Kim Yo-jong, director of the General Affairs Department of the Workers' Party of Korea, putting propaganda loudspeakers directed toward the South into operational standby in October.
