Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who left the country following his defeat in the presidential election, has arrived in the United States.
Bloomberg reported on the 27th, local time, citing Brazilian media, that Senator Bolsonaro arrived in Miami, U.S., on that day.
His younger brother Eduardo, who resides in the U.S., was reportedly at the airport to greet him.
Eduardo has been staying in the U.S. since last year, lobbying the Trump administration to rescue their father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, who was convicted on coup charges.
According to a high-ranking police official, Bolsonaro has no official record of exiting through immigration control due to Brazilian authorities' measure to cancel his passport.
However, according to AFP, Bolsonaro has also held Italian citizenship since 2023.
Brazilian authorities canceled Bolsonaro's passport because he failed to comply with a Brazilian Supreme Court order to surrender his passport within 24 hours in connection with allegations including money laundering.
He has denied the related charges.
As of the previous day, Senator Bolsonaro had stated, "I have never once thought about leaving the country," expressing his intention to surrender his passport and cooperate with the investigation.
Analyses suggest that his trip to the U.S. could deepen tensions between Brazil and the United States.
According to CNN, President Trump permitted Bolsonaro's entry into the U.S.
The U.S. State Department also stated that it plans to issue visas to Bolsonaro and his family.
Trump administration officials were aware that Bolsonaro had been ordered by Brazilian authorities to surrender his passport.
The Trump administration has expressed the view that former President Jair Bolsonaro is facing judicial persecution.
In response, President Lula has criticized the U.S. for supporting the resurgence of the Bolsonaro family.
