The case regarding the alleged leak of a suspicion report concerning a "salmon and alcohol party" -- filed by an attorney who is a former high-ranking prosecutor suspected of coercing former Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor for Peace Lee Hwa-young -- has been disposed of without indictment.
Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (acting senior prosecutor Kim Ho-kyung) decided not to indict in the case where attorney Cho Jae-yeon filed a complaint against an unidentified Ministry of Justice official on charges of leaking official secrets.
When media reports surfaced last December alleging that Cho coerced former Vice Governor Lee based on an inspection report by a Ministry of Justice special inspection team, Cho filed a complaint with the police against the drafting personnel, claiming that "the report was leaked through Ministry of Justice officials."
The police reportedly investigated Ministry of Justice officials and the reporter who wrote the article, and verified the viewing and copying of the report through the Suwon District Court.
The police reportedly decided not to send the case to prosecutors, judging that the report may have been disclosed to the outside while being viewed and copied during the court trial process.
At the time, prosecutors also concluded that the case was based on media reports and the complainant's speculation, thus maintaining the decision not to send the case for indictment.
