A man in his 20s has been arrested on charges of murdering a man in his 70s whom he did not know at a residence in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.

Judge Park Sa-rang, the senior judge dedicated to warrant proceedings at the Seoul Northern District Court, issued an arrest warrant after conducting a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review) for the man in his 20s, identified as A, who faces murder charges, starting at 10:30 a.m. on October 7.

Judge Park stated, "There is a concern for the destruction of evidence and flight."

Suspect A did not attend the warrant review that day.

Suspect A is accused of strangling to death a resident in his 70s, identified as B, at a house in Beondong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, at 11:00 p.m. on October 3.

Police received a report that B could not be reached and, while searching for his whereabouts, discovered B dead at his home around 7:00 p.m. on October 4.

Analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage around the scene, police identified A as a suspect and urgently arrested him at 1:00 a.m. on October 5.

Investigations showed that A followed B, who was returning home on the day of the incident, and committed the crime.

During police questioning, A stated that their shoulders bumped on the street, prompting him to follow B to confront him, leading to the impulsive murder.

However, as a result of police analysis of CCTV footage and other evidence, it was found that no footage captured B bumping into anyone on his way home.

Investigations revealed that A and B did not know each other.

Police are investigating the exact motive for the crime against A.
