A bizarre incident occurred during the Asian Games where an athlete was disqualified for biting her opponent's arm.
During the women's 70kg judo quarterfinals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, China's Dang Jing committed a foul by biting the arm of Japan's Maeda Rin.
Facing defeat under Maeda's hold, Dang was unable to escape and bit down hard on Maeda's left arm, refusing to let go for over 20 seconds until the referee stopped the match.
Immediately afterward, Maeda rolled up her uniform sleeve to show the referee clear bite marks imprinted on her arm. Following a video review to confirm Dang's action, the referee declared a default loss by disqualification.
Even after the defeat, Dang left the arena without offering a proper apology.
Local fans who witnessed the scene took to social media, posting reactions such as, "Is Dang human or an animal?" and "How can someone bite a person in a gentlemanly sport?"
Regarding the biting incident, Maeda stated, "My adrenaline was pumping, so I didn't pay much attention to it," and ultimately went on to win the gold medal.
