Representative Yoo Young-ha of the People Power Party criticized the film "The Assassin(s)," which has recently been at the center of controversy over historical distortion, and disclosed a handwritten letter written by the late former President Park Chung-hee two days after the passing of First Lady Yuk Young-soo.
Holding a press conference at the National Assembly's press center this morning (October 2), Representative Yoo said, "I believe this film defamed the honor of the late President Park Chung-hee by intentionally blurring the boundary between fact and fiction, and inflicted indelible insult and unforgettable scars on his surviving family."
He then released the handwritten letter sent by former President Park Chung-hee to former President Park Geun-hye on August 17, 1974.

Representative Yoo elaborated, "It was written and sent by the late President Park Chung-hee conveying his feelings at the time to former President Park Geun-hye, who was returning home from France after receiving the tragic news."
The letter contains lines such as, 'Mother took the fatal bullet meant for Father and passed away,' 'I think over and over how good it would have been if I had been shot and Mother had lived,' and 'Everything feels so dark thinking of Father having to greet you alone at the entrance.'
Representative Yoo also urged director Hur Jin-ho and the production team to display a responsible attitude, including suspending screenings of the movie "The Assassin(s)."
When asked by reporters following the press conference whether legal action is also being considered, Representative Yoo replied, "We are exploring all legally available options."
