Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on the local time yesterday that Iran held indirect talks with the United States through Qatari mediation on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, exchanging messages and confirming each other's stances.
Baghaei explained on social media X that day, "In extension of the discussions held outside the UN General Assembly hall yesterday (the 22nd), another round of message exchanges and stance confirmations took place through Qatari mediators."
Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff discussed pending issues with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for three hours the day before.
Baghaei noted that the message exchange lasted "about two hours," emphasizing that "through this process, Iran's positions and conditions for restoring diplomacy were delivered to the U.S. side in a definitive manner that provides no pretext to either side and leaves no room for minor doubt or ambiguity."
It was reported that Iran conveyed to the U.S. side through the mediator that its demands are "clear and transparent."
The core conditions made public by Baghaei include halting U.S. hostile actions including maritime blockades and economic terrorism, ending the war on all fronts, returning frozen and restricted Iranian assets, and ensuring safe shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz based on an agreement between the two coastal governments.
As the U.S. and Iran have activated communication channels through a third country to test specific demands even amidst a wartime situation where they have continued armed conflict for seven months, the international community's attention is focused on whether both sides can break the prolonged deadlock and forge a breakthrough for a diplomatic solution.
