Debate is heating up over Apple's first foldable smartphone, the "iPhone Duo."
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo today in Cupertino, California.
The device features an internal screen size of 19.3 cm and an external screen of 13.6 cm, allowing users to operate it while folding and unfolding the device.
The issue is the price.
The domestic retail price starts at 3.29 million won for the 256GB model, sparking divided opinions between those who find it too expensive and those who believe the price is tolerable.
A review journalist from the U.S. IT media outlet The Verge noted that as someone who likes the iPad Mini, the size, form factor, and multitasking capabilities are ideal, but added, "It's too expensive, so I wouldn't buy it."
Another reviewer confessed to being drawn to the large screen, but stated they do not want to give up the telephoto lens on their current iPhone 17 Pro.
On the other hand, some analyses suggest it could carve out a new path for growth.
Mark Vena, CEO of SmartTech Research, told the New York Post, "This opens up a way to significantly push up the upper limit of the average selling price while maintaining the existing iPhone business."
Nabila Popal, senior research director at IDC, similarly stated, "I am confident it will be a box office hit despite the high price."
She also projected that Apple could secure up to a 30% share of the foldable market by the end of this year.
However, the intense interest in the new product did not translate into a rise in stock prices.
The U.S. investment publication Barron's reported that Apple's stock, which had fallen about 2% around the end of the event, rebounded and neared a flatline during the final hour before market close.
Apple plans to begin accepting pre-orders for the "iPhone Duo" starting on October 16, with an official launch scheduled for the 23rd of the same month.
