On April 20, 2021, when housing prices were surging, nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family Yong Hye-in, who was also a sitting lawmaker, took the floor for the National Assembly's questioning of the government.
Raising her voice, she said, "The government and the ruling party are moving to ease holding taxes and loan regulations to appease public sentiment angered by the failure of real estate policies," adding, "This will wide open the doors to real estate speculation."
She then made the following remarks:
[Yong Hye-in / Nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family (April 2021): The solution to this problem must begin with curbing unearned real estate income, rather than increasing the stakes for speculation.]
We reviewed the registry copy of a multi-family house in Sangnok-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, purchased by nominee Yong that year.
The transaction date was April 20, which coincides with the day nominee Yong conducted the questioning of the government.
Nominee Yong purchased the multi-family house for 245 million won and sold it less than a year later for 20 million won more than the purchase price.
Nominee Yong's stance is that it was purchased for actual residency purposes, and she has been living in a rented home (jeonse) ever since.
Inquiries regarding whether she would resign from her proportional representation lawmaker position continued, but nominee Yong remained silent.
[Yong Hye-in / Nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family: (Do you have no change in your stance on holding concurrent positions?) You are working hard.]
Four years ago, nominee Yong used the expression clinging to the position against the then-Minister of Gender Equality and Family.
[Yong Hye-in / Nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family (October 2022): Madam Minister, you stated earlier that you would not answer regarding resignation at the end of my question. I think it looks quite pathetic to see you clinging to your post.]
The schedule for nominee Yong's confirmation hearing has not yet been determined.
