The KOSPI closed just shy of the 7,000 mark today. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix saw net buying by foreign investors for the first time in a while, driven by a favorable U.S.-origin AI breeze. However, the U.S. is pressuring that tariffs will be imposed on semiconductors not produced within its domestic factories. We examine how "semiconductor tariffs" will impact Samsung and SK Hynix, as well as domestic semiconductor investments moving forward. We also take a closer look at the pharmaceutical venture firm Genencell and Sejong Medical, which invested in Genencell, as their names are repeatedly mentioned in connection with the recently controversial "new drug lobbying allegations" involving nominee for Minister of Justice Kim Seung-won.
