The 46th National Para Games will take place in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province for a six-day run from the 11th to the 16th.
A total of 9,141 athletes and officials from 17 cities and provinces nationwide—comprising 5,677 athletes and 3,464 officials and staff—will participate in this year's competition, spanning 31 events across 36 venues.
Starting with this tournament, a new operating system will be implemented to categorize events into developmental sports and popularization sports, based on criteria such as whether the detailed events are operated in international competitions.
Detailed events operated in the Paralympics, Deaflympics, Asian Para Games, and World Championships will be classified as developmental sports, while domestic events not featured in international competitions and demonstration events will be designated as popularization sports.
When calculating overall rankings, bonus points will be awarded to cities and provinces based on the participation rates of rookie and female athletes, along with extra points for events featuring athletes with severe disabilities.
The opening ceremony, scheduled for the 11th at Jeju World Cup Stadium, will be held under the theme "Opening the Infinite Universe."
Starting today through the 16th, when the closing ceremony takes place, the plaza at Jeju World Cup Stadium will host "Dream Paralympic," a disability awareness improvement program featuring hands-on experiences with para-sports such as boccia and archery.
