Ukraine has been stepping up its unmanned aerial vehicle offensive against Russia.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in a statement that a total of 548 drones flew toward the Moscow region over a 28-hour period from 8 a.m. on the 2nd to noon on the 3rd, local time.
He explained that while most of them were shot down on the outskirts, 143 were intercepted while trying to enter Moscow.
Airports across Russia—including Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, Yaroslavl, Sheremetyevo, Sochi, Kaluga, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Sheremetyevo, and Gelendzhik—temporarily suspended operations, delaying arrivals and departures, which appears to be due to the impact of the Ukrainian drone strikes.
Russia's state-run TASS news agency reported that this airstrike by the Ukrainian military targeting Moscow is one of the largest among cases recorded over the past two years.
It was reported that 600 drones were mobilized on August 15–16, and some 430 were deployed on July 6–7.
This attack came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on the 1st, local time, that "a large number of drones will appear in Russian skies."
