Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on the local time 2nd that plans to support the large-scale external displacement of residents in the Gaza Strip are still under discussion.
Minister Katz made the remarks at a conference hosted by Israeli media outlet Ynet and the daily Yedioth Ahronoth, stating, "U.S. President Donald Trump has not canceled the plan, but has merely put it on hold."
He claimed, "Ultimately, there is no true solution for the Gaza Strip without displacement," adding that "80% of the residents want to relocate."
He explained, "Hamas is blocking this, and there is currently no country anywhere in the world willing to accept them."
Shortly after taking office in February of last year, President Trump advocated for the relocation of Gaza's population, and Israel established a dedicated task force under the Ministry of Defense to support so-called "voluntary migration."
In the face of fierce backlash from the international community and a lack of countries willing to take in Gaza residents, President Trump withdrew the proposal.
The current peace plan for Gaza, arranged under the ceasefire regime, focuses on encouraging residents to remain in Gaza rather than displacing them, while providing opportunities to build a better Gaza.
The Gaza Strip, measuring 365 square kilometers—about 60% of the area of Seoul—was home to 2.3 million Palestinian residents before the outbreak of the war in 2023.
