As six Doosan Enerbility employees remain out of contact following massive floods in Nepal, Doosan Group Chairman Park Jeong-won is departing for Nepal today (August 29).
Chairman Park is scheduled to arrive in Nepal this afternoon via a direct Korean Air flight to Kathmandu.
In Kathmandu, Chairman Park plans to directly support the search and rescue operations at the accident site.
The accident site is located about 70 kilometers away from Kathmandu.
Six Doosan Enerbility employees at a hydroelectric power plant construction site have been reported missing due to the heavy floods in Nepal.
In a message posted on the company's internal bulletin board on the 27th, Chairman Park stated, "We are making the verification of employee safety and their safe return our top priority, closely cooperating with local and related authorities while checking the local situation through all available channels." He added, "We are concentrating all company-wide capabilities to ensure that search, rescue, and recovery measures are carried out swiftly and systematically."
To handle the crisis, Doosan Enerbility has been operating a 40-member emergency response headquarters (led by Executive Vice President Lee Dong-soo, head of the EHS division) at its headquarters in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province, since the previous day.
An on-site response team, including Vice Chairman and CEO Jeong Yeon-in, is currently active in Nepal.
The Doosan Group also provided an emergency fund of 5 million dollars to the Rasuwa region in Nepal to support rescue and recovery efforts in the flood-affected areas.
Among the 16 South Korean employees who were at the Doosan Enerbility hydroelectric power plant construction site, the remaining 10—excluding the 6 who are missing—moved to Kathmandu the previous day after being stranded in an isolated area.
