According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 10 South Korean nationals who were stranded by the floods that occurred the day before yesterday and rescued safely were mostly staying at a place called a "power house," which is used as a workplace and accommodation by local employees.
It is understood that the power house suffered less damage because it was located away from the river area and sat at a higher elevation.
However, as surrounding roads were washed away by the floods, they had no choice but to wait for a helicopter rescue, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said.
Meanwhile, the 9 South Korean nationals affiliated with Korea South-East Power and Doosan Enerbility who lost contact due to this flood were reportedly at the accommodations and offices mainly used by South Korean employees at the time of the accident.
This area is relatively low in elevation, resulting in greater damage from the massive flood.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it has been determined the building where these 9 individuals were located has currently been washed away, and added that it will also push for the prompt dispatch of the Overseas Emergency Relief Team.
