The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has launched a fact-finding investigation after a post was uploaded to its internal anonymous communication board claiming that an employee suffered disadvantages after refusing a supervisor's sexual demands.
Yesterday, an employee uploaded a post starting with the words "Trash incident" on the Gyeonggi Provincial Government's internal anonymous communication board.
This board is a space where only provincial government employees can post. The anonymous employee did not reveal the identity of the supervisor designated as the perpetrator, but claimed to have suffered sexual demands and workplace bullying.
The employee started the post by saying, "Even now in May 202X, facing that person every time I go to work is disgusting."
The post continued that the supervisor made a remark telling the employee to quit if they refused to meet, stating, "This goes beyond pressure for refusing sexual demands and is intimidation."
The author claimed that they refused because both the author and the supervisor are married and they wanted to protect their families, but that following the refusal, they experienced being excluded from work and faced negative rumors about themselves spreading to other employees.
The author added, "Because these things happened after I refused the sexual demands, I had no choice but to accept them as retaliation for my refusal," and "I am still working in the same team and suffering discomfort and mental stress from that experience."
The post has currently surpassed 2,300 views. As the controversy spread among employees, Gyeonggi Governor Choo Mi-ae issued special instructions for the protection of the victim, strict prevention of secondary victimization, the activation of a reporting system directly under the Human Rights Officer, and strict disciplinary action.
Governor Choo stated, "Regarding the recent sexual misconduct issue raised within the provincial government, please handle the matter carefully and sternly, placing the utmost priority on respecting the victim's wishes."
