Former North Korean MiG Pilot Lee Woong-pyung's Dramatic Life Revealed on 'Tails of Tales'

SBS "Tails of Tales" will shed light on the turbulent life hidden behind the glory of Lee Woong-pyung, who defected by piloting a MiG fighter jet and became an anti-communist idol.

On the September 3 broadcast of "Tails of Tales", singer CHUNG HA, ONF member HYOJIN, and actor Yun Yu-Sun will appear as story friends for the episode titled "Turn the Rudder Freely! - Lee Woong-pyung from the North".

In 1983, Lee Woong-pyung defected by flying a MiG jet and drew massive attention by receiving a settlement of 1.56 billion won, an amount equivalent to the value of 78 luxury apartments at the time. Alongside his life-risking defection, he became a national anti-communist idol and was called "busier than the president" due to giving over 900 lectures a year.

He also previously confessed his disillusionment with the reality in North Korea after seeing a phrase written on an empty ramen wrapper washed ashore on a beach that said, "Defective or damaged products will be exchanged."

In particular, on this broadcast, Lee Woong-pyung's wife Park Sun-young makes a direct appearance and reveals, "For safety, we lived our newlywed life in an air force official residence. One day, I discovered a long-connected wiretapping device. Government agencies were continuing surveillance and wiretapping," revealing the shocking behind-the-scenes story that led her to declare a divorce. In response, Yun Yu-Sun deeply empathizes with his poignant life, saying, "It is a life more dramatic than a drama."

The heartbreaking story of Lee Woong-pyung, who passed away at a young age, and the unexpected whereabouts of the 1.56 billion won settlement will be revealed on "Tails of Tales", airing tonight, Thursday, at 10:20 PM.
