Girl group RESCENE has donated 50 million won to help flood victims in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, the hometown of member WONI.
The agency of RESCENE visited Geoje City on the afternoon of the 19th and delivered 50 million won in donations to support torrential rain damage recovery and aid victims. For a rookie group that debuted in March 2024, this is by no means an easy scale of donation.
This donation holds even more meaning as it was made through the ties formed between RESCENE and Geoje City. RESCENE recently connected with Geoje when Japanese member MINAMI shouted "Geoje Yaho!" in a YouTube content video featuring member WONI, which became a hot topic across social media and short-form platforms. The short remark sparked an online meme that raised interest in Geoje, leading Geoje City to appoint RESCENE as promotional ambassadors last May. WONI, who is from Okpo-dong, Geoje, has previously expressed affection for her hometown, calling it her "home ground."
The recent floods were caused by torrential rains that continued from the 15th to the 17th. According to South Gyeongsang Province, the heavy rain led to continuous damage including flooded homes, roads, and agricultural land, as well as landslides, power outages, and water supply interruptions.
Fans also joined in RESCENE's donation. The fandom, REMINE, voluntarily encouraged donations centered around online communities, and as of the previous day, the 19th, about 800 people participated and raised over 40 million won.
