Matt Damon Jokes About Christopher Nolan's "Perfect" Praise for Zendaya in 'The Odyssey'

The cast members of the film "The Odyssey" have revealed behind-the-scenes stories regarding Christopher Nolan's selective "perfect" praise.

Attending the press conference for "The Odyssey" held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Gwanghwamun, Seoul on the morning of the 3rd, Matt Damon was asked about director Nolan's directing style, as he is well known for rarely praising actors' performances. Damon smiled and replied, "I haven't heard the director say 'perfect.' I'll probably hear it soon, right? I'm an optimistic person."

He continued, "The cast members joked about this a lot on set. I understand that the director told Zendaya, 'Perfect.' But none of us heard it," and added, "The location shoots for this movie were really tough. Once we finished filming at one location and moved to another, the skills we learned previously became meaningless and we had to learn them all over again. So shooting this one movie felt as difficult as shooting seven."

Despite this, he stated that he would accept a casting offer from director Nolan at any time. Expressing strong trust, Matt Damon said, "Anyone who works with director Nolan would say 'yes' to appearing in his next project, because participating in a Nolan film means a lot to an actor."

Addressing the same question, Charlize Theron delivered a witty joke aimed at Matt Damon, saying, "Unlike Matt Damon, I really liked the director's direction. Although I didn't hear the word 'perfect' either, I always had fun filming." She then added to director Nolan, "My phone number hasn't changed, so please call me anytime if you have a next project."

Responding to the actors' remarks, director Nolan commented, "Charlize gave a perfect answer. Matt's answer wasn't bad (laughs). Since I'm British, I hope you understand that 'not bad' is not a very harsh evaluation."

In this project, Matt Damon and Charlize Theron deliver top-tier performances as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, and Calypso, the sea goddess, respectively.

"The Odyssey" depicts the events that unfold as Odysseus (Matt Damon), a hero who led the 10-year Trojan War to victory, embarks on a journey to return home to his waiting wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) amidst the absence of a king. It is set to be released domestically on August 5th.
