i-dle member SHUHUA is taking her meaningful first steps as an actor, as her first starring film has been officially invited to the world-renowned Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The film "Happily ever after," starring SHUHUA, has received an official invitation to the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, which will run from September 10 to 20.
The Toronto International Film Festival is a world-class festival boasting the largest scale in North America, and the Special Presentations section is a prominent program introducing new works by globally acclaimed directors and actors. Past Korean films invited to this section include director Bong Joon-ho's "Mother" and "Parasite," as well as director Park Chan-wook's "The Handmaiden."
Stepping onto the international film festival stage with her very first starring project, SHUHUA shared her thoughts, saying, "I really couldn't believe it when I heard the news." She added, "I consider it a great honor to be able to advance to the international stage with a great team right from my first project." She also stated, "I hope that everyone who watches the film will find empathy and comfort through Lin Jiaqi's story and feel the sincerity that we poured into the work."
"Happily ever after" tells the story of how the peaceful daily lives of two sisters with completely different personalities are shaken up when a stray cat suddenly appears. The film is directed by Fiona Roan, whose feature debut "American Girl" won the Best New Director award, the FIPRESCI Prize, and the Audience Award at the Golden Horse Awards.
In the film, SHUHUA plays Lin Jiaqi, the bright and innocent youngest daughter. She is a character who experiences various emotions and grows through her relationship with her sisters after encountering a stray cat, taking on her first official on-screen acting challenge through this project.
Having debuted as a member of i-dle in 2018, SHUHUA has showcased unique performances and presence on stage. Expectations are growing as she expands her scope of activities to the screen through this film, displaying new potential as an actor.
Meanwhile, i-dle, the group SHUHUA belongs to, will perform at the large-scale music festival "Lollapalooza Chicago" in Chicago, USA, on July 31 local time. Afterward, they are scheduled to grandly wrap up their world tour by holding the "2026 i-dle WORLD TOUR [Syncopation] IN MACAU" concerts at the Galaxy Arena in Macau on August 29 and 30.
