BTS is joining forces with The British Museum, one of the world's top three museums, to promote Korean cultural heritage to a global audience.
HYBE announced that as part of the "BTS THE CITY ARIRANG - LONDON" project, they will host an interactive program titled Korea Gallery Trail at the Korea Gallery of The British Museum in London from the 6th to the 23rd (local time).
"THE CITY LONDON" is a project that reimagines the city of London as an immersive space where music and culture blend, themed around BTS's 5th studio album, "ARIRANG". With a variety of events including performances, exhibitions, and interactive programs, the collaboration with a world-renowned cultural institution like The British Museum has drawn significant attention.
The Korea Gallery Trail is designed to guide visitors through the permanent collection of the Korea Gallery, connecting artifacts that resonate with the themes of hope, resilience, and a sense of belonging found in "ARIRANG".
The tour route focuses on key Korean cultural heritage pieces, including the sarangbang (a traditional reception room) symbolizing new beginnings, moon jars embodying humanity, intricately crafted gold earrings, and sumaksae (roof-end tiles) that showcase cultural vitality. Notably, the program also highlights Silla-era artifacts, inspired by the actual sound of the Divine Bell of King Seongdeok featured in the track No.29 from the 5th studio album, shedding light on the craftsmanship and artistry of that era.
Visitors can participate in the program by scanning a QR code at the entrance of the Korea Gallery, following the guided tour, and sharing their own stories in response to the question, "What is Your 'ARIRANG'?" on social media. The initiative is designed to help global visitors experience Korean history and culture more familiarly by bridging BTS's music with Korean cultural heritage.
Beyond their musical endeavors, BTS has consistently taken steps to promote Korean culture and art to the world. RM, in particular, is well-known for his deep interest in art and cultural heritage. In 2020, he donated 100 million KRW to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art to support the development of art culture, and last month, he was appointed as the first global ambassador for the National Museum of Korea, beginning his activities to promote the beauty and value of Korean cultural heritage globally.
