The Incheon Coast Guard announced that at approximately 4:35 a.m. today (June 27), a report was received by the Incheon Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) center that a fishing boat was taking on water while traveling from the Sihwa Seawall dock in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, toward the waters near Chochido, Ongjin-gun, Incheon.
There were 22 people on board the fishing boat, including 20 passengers and 2 crew members.
The Incheon Coast Guard dispatched patrol vessels, the Incheon rescue team, and a New Port rescue boat to the scene, successfully rescuing all 22 people from the sinking vessel southwest of Incheon New Port.
The Incheon Coast Guard transported the passengers to the dock via a patrol vessel and also moved the damaged boat to the dock.
A Coast Guard official stated, "Thanks to a swift initial response and the active cooperation of nearby vessels, we were able to complete the rescue without any casualties," and added, "Please ensure you follow safety regulations, such as wearing life jackets at all times during maritime activities."
